Come to Us
Inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's The Shadow over Innsmouth, Come to Us attempts to capture the real lure, the essence of the invitation originally offered to the hearty inhabitants of Innsmouth. What could cause them to make such an unholy alliance?
Come to Us is mostly a spoken-word piece, and project-wise, an experiment in sound mastering. But from such humble beginnings, Come to Us has grown into a chilling and haunting monograph, that will rewrite the meaning of Exupery's "endless immensity of the sea" in your heart.

Production Diary
- 08-01-2007: Eric writes back, happy with my sync job. I'd call that a done deal!
- 07-31-2007: Eric sends a music track back, and I start syncing it in. It's tricky because the piece is so loosey-goosey that I'm having trouble finding a sync point. I do the best I can and upload a sample to Eric to review.
- 07-11-2007: Received the mastered sound and placed it back into the timeline. This is much better than what I could do! I was able to fix up simple opening and credit/closing video sequences. I send a copy back to Eric for final music scoring.
- 07-01-2007: Picked through the audio, pulled out what I wanted to save, and placed it in the timeline. We had recorded several takes in normal voice, and several takes in whispers, trying to time everything the same. The result was that I was able to lay all of these whispers on top of each other and the slight mis-syncs here and there made it sound much more like multiple voices than a simple echoing effect would have done. I stole this trick from Enya. Forgive me. Passed it on to Eric for mastering.
- 06-30-2007: Recorded the monologue. We tried to get a more intimate sound by stacking pillows up to make a thick pillow fort. It seemed to work out well -- the sound was quite nice.
- 06-29-2007: Wrote it, pretty much during a series of traffic stops on a slow traffic day. Thought this would be fun as a monologue over stock footage we already have, just as an experiment to try out sound mastering. Found footage from Innsmouth Legacy we could use. Asked Eric about it, and although he seemed puzzled, he agreed.
